“RÉS” was realized in Pécs as the winning project of the 21 Dialogue – Public Art competition.Developed in response to a disused staircase, the project aimed to reactivate an overlooked architectural element and redefine the way the space is perceived, experienced, and used.
The contrast between ultramarine blue and black creates a sense of optical uncertainty. The boundaries of the form dissolve, and the mass appears to float while evoking the sensation of an imaginary space. The intervention redirects attention toward a previously unnoticed location, slows movement, and creates a new relationship between people and their environment.
From Architectural Element to Spatial Experience
The work does not function as an autonomous sculpture but forms a unified whole with the site itself. The intervention does not appear in the space as an object, but rather as a temporary shift in the perception of space. The intensity of the color and the optical effect of the form draw passersby closer while simultaneously altering the use and perception of the site. The floating ultramarine form evokes both a cosmic body and an optical opening, generating a new spatial experience within the everyday urban environment.
